Customer Reviews about Farmers Korner Veterinary Hospital

  • We were on vacation in Breck and needed to have our dog seen last minute. They fit us in on a Saturday and Dr. Court, the tech and receptionist were all wonderful! Thank you for a pleasant experience!

For standard, preventative care, they are fine but Farmer's Korner's incompetence almost killed our dog! When our Newfoundland was attacked (bitten and scratched) by our friends cats last year, we didn't realize there was a problem until 36 hours after the attack when his neck quickly swelled to the size of a football. We immediately took him to our regular vet, at Farmer's Korner, on a Thursday, where he was put on antibiotics. The vet sent us on our way with the warning to be ready for an abscess and abscess rupture. Ok, so far no reason to really worry, right? At this time, we had always received great treatment at Farmer's Korner. As expected, his swollen abscess grew until it ruptured on Saturday afternoon. By Sunday, there were multiple ruptures and the skin on the abscess began to die and fall off. We weren't expecting the wound to open so aggressively and called the emergency line at our regular vet and made an appointment to get him in first thing the following morning. They told us how to care for it in the meantime and we felt we were receiving good treatment so far. Here is where Farmer's Korner lost us: We brought him in at 8am and Dr. Richman did not meet with us. We were told she would call us. With a 8" x 14" portion of his neck skin now dying and falling off, we were anxiously awaiting news as they held him most of the day (from 8am). Finally, around mid afternoon, I spoke with the vet on the phone and she still had not actually done anything for him. She was waiting for return phone calls from vet specialists to determine what treatment would be best; at this point we began wondering why she didn't have the knowledge or confidence to decide, for herself, the proper course of treatment. We placed phone calls to other veterinarians, even consulting with a family friend's lifelong equine vet. Another local vet in Frisco, told us to get him over to them right away. We went to Farmer's Korner to pick him up and thank goodness we did! We demanded to have our dog (the air was not pleasant, we were upset and they were insulted-so it seemed) and when he was brought from the back, he was running into the walls. He had now gone blind from the aggressive infection. We still had not physically seen the vet. As we got our dog out to the car, she came out to the truck (1st time we actually got to see her all day!) and confronted us saying we were acting too hastily and the skin needed time to decay and fall off before being removed. We were angry and told her we were doing what we thought was best. It was not a good situation for either party. Thankfully, he received life-saving treatment at another animal hospital. Right when we arrived, they took blood and a culture sample then administered an antibiotic booster intravenously. He was dehydrated after spending the day being untreated at Farmer's Korner, so they very simply gave him a bowl of water, which he gladly accepted. He was 24-48 hours from having gangrene and going septic. If we had listened to the doctor at Farmer's Korner, our dog would likely be dead. He underwent multiple surgeries to remove the dead skin and received a month long course of near daily treatment from a very competent doctor and well-trained, loving staff. He had 4 different bacterial infections, MRSA being the most aggressive. Thankfully, his eyesight returned (via 4 different eye drops administered every 15 minutes for a week) and he is thriving again. Although they were good with minor needs and regular preventative care, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Farmer's Korner Veterinary Hospital.
